How to choose the right bathroom renovator
Choosing a tradesman is easy, they are a dime a dozen - choosing a good tradesman is NOT so easy.
I think we have all heard shonky, tradie horror stories. So here are a few things to consider when choosing a tradesman, in particular, a carpenter to renovate your families bathroom:-
Make sure they are legit
We have personally seen the aftermath of choosing a shonky tradesman. They don't provide any details such as ABN or licence numbers. They charge like a wounded bull and don't carry out a decent job at all. Yet they walk away with cash!!! Then we have to come in and pick up the pieces and by this time they are long gone, untraceable and haven't paid a cent in taxes.
DO YOUR RESEARCH.
Ask for a quote (which should have all their details on it) and check with QBCC if they are licenced.
Ask for references/testimonials
If you don't know the tradesman from a bar of soap, then don't be too shy to ask for references or testimonials.
Word of mouth is generally the best way to choose a tradie, so if you have found one that you were happy with, then leave a review, testimonial etc, as this helps others in the future.
Shop around
Obtain at least 3 quotes before you decide and ensure that you are comparing apples with apples. Some tradesman quote for things others don't, so the initial quote may appear bigger in value, when in fact it has included things that others omitted.
Ask yourself if you want a cheap bathroom renovation? A quality bathroom renovation? Or both??
Sometimes the cheapest isn't always the best and the same goes with the most expensive, it mightn't be worth a cent!
So do your research, meet with the tradesman and go with your gut. Some can talk the talk but not walk the walk. Find one that can do both. You need someone who you can comfortably communicate with and feel good about having them in your home.
